Bespoke contract caterer, Talkington Bates, has secured two new contracts with a combined turnover of over £1m – one of which takes them into the exciting realms of festival catering – plus a well-earned contract extension after an amazing 65% sales uplift.
Existing client, RSPCA based in Horsham, West Sussex, has signed Talkington Bates up for a further two years and brand new 2 year contract for NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, based in Hemel Hempstead and a contract working with RSPCA Assured, the RSPCA’s farm assurance and food labelling scheme at 10 of the biggest UK festivals over the summer, has also been picked up.
The company will take charge of the food offering – Yassa Hut – which RSPCA Assured supplies during the busy summer 2017 festival season, hopefully appearing at Glastonbury, Cornbury, Isle of Wight and Country File Live to name just a few. RSPCA Assured accredited, Talkington Bates was approached about the contract because of its existing, strong relationship with the RSPCA alongside ability to deliver and innovative menus.
Paul Bates, Managing Director of Talkington Bates, comments: “Talkington Bates has long been associated with delivering quality food and customer service and we’re delighted to be able to broaden our catering horizons and enter into the competitive world of festival catering.”
“Innovation and diversification is always at the top of our minds and we pay particular attention to both market trends and consumer insight to ensure we are supplying cutting edge catering – this is something RSPCA Assured are already familiar with, sharing an office with the RSPCA, who we have been working with for some time. We enjoy an excellent working relationship with both companies, largely due to our similar brand values, the Talkington Bates and Freedom Food partnership really is a great fit!”
The company will supply a varied, all-day dining menu for festival goers visiting the on-site African ‘Yassa Hut’ outlets throughout the summer, whereas previously only a lunchtime menu had been available. Revellers can look forward to street food favourites, along with some new flavours such as Yassa Spit Roast Pork and Grilled Gambian Chicken Skewers with Sweet Potatoes Wedges and Jallof Rice, plus a host of breakfast and snack options, all safe in the knowledge that the food they are eating has come from farms which adhere to strict RSPCA welfare standards.
The second new contract is supply to an entirely subsidised lunch for staff and contractors at NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, based in Hemel Hempstead. This win was largely down to a value for money, quality food offering and an acute understanding of health & safety regulations at the site.
Talkington Bates intends to grow the services they supply at NGK further down the line, looking at providing ‘grab & go’ lines in the future.
In addition to the new business gains, existing client RSPCA headquarters has extended its contract with Talkington Bates for a further two years due to the excellent work which has been carried out so far. After just 12 months, on-site catering sales have increased by 65% leaving the RSPCA in no doubt they picked the right contract caterer to work with.
Ray Boxall, National Facilities Manager, RSPCA said of the extension: “We didn’t think twice about extending our partnership, it’s great to work with like-minded people who share the same ethics, Talkington Bates cares about using local produce, seasonal ingredients and is obviously RSPCA Assured accredited. Above all, the food solutions they offer us have gone down extremely well with the staff, who enjoy the diverse and inspiring menus they create.”
Talkington Bates’ Paul concludes: “It’s always fulfilling to retain business and gain new contracts, especially working on projects that will bring ideas which we can utilise in other parts of our operation. We look forward, as a business, to the hugely exciting challenges that 2017 will bring.”
